Prayers for Panda
Panda, our beloved miracle husky who survived death twice before (canine herpes when he was born and impaction and complications from eating toy stuffing 2.5 years ago), is fighting for his life yet again.
He is having complications from his surgery in 2017 when he had to be opened up twice, and has had to be opened up another 2 times in the last 2 weeks to go in and remove scar tissue that had built up and blocked his intestines, as well as a leaking spot in his intestine. He hasn't eaten anything now for 2 weeks and has gone from a rather "husky", thick boy, to a very thin dog now, and had to go back to the emergency hospital after his first surgery last week because he still wasn't eating and was leaking blood all over, which resulted in his 2nd surgery yesterday. We are now waiting to see if this will help pull him out of the woods, and if he can finally be on his way to recovery.
His sickness came on rapidly - Friday May 22nd, he was out shining and working as a demo dog with his momma, helping another doggy friend work on dog reactivity issues and learning to be friends with new dogs; and then when we got home, he refused to eat, which then snowballed into the nightmare we are now fighting our way out of.
His multiple hospitalizations and surgeries over the last couple weeks have now totalled to an $11,000 total that has once again maxed out all the credit cards that we were finally paying off after the $13k blow 3 years ago to save him and his 4 littermates from canine herpes, and the more than $7k we spent 2.5 years ago for his impaction surgery to remove the stuffing he had swallowed and that had completely blocked his intestines... while it is a devastating blow, our only other option was to put him down or let him die, which is a hard decision for ANYONE, let alone rescue operators whose goal is to be there for the dogs that other people think aren't worth saving, and after fighting so hard in the past for this pup's (and his siblings) life.
While we never expect to recoup even a decent portion of what we spend on rescue dog's medical bills (let alone a personal dog) - we have had gracious offers of support for Panda's bills, and anything that we recoup towards his veterinary bills realistically goes back into the rescue, allowing us to have credit available on the cards for any other dog/dogs' future veterinary bills, or daily operations such as food bills and such.
Thank you EVERYONE who has offered support for Panda - whether simply verbal love and support, or the offer of financial assistance from those golden hearted individuals.... this has been such a stressful, hurtful time amidst all else going on, and the kindness we have received from the community regarding Panda has been SO impactful and cherished. <3 Thank you.
