Prayers for Paizlee

13 If any of you are suffering, they should pray. If any of you are happy, they should sing. 14 If any of you are sick, they should call for the elders of the church, and the elders should pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Prayer that comes from faith will heal the sick, for the Lord will restore them to health. -James 5:13-15

If you’re reading this, you know the precious gift that is little Paizlee Jones and the difficulty of her journey through three surgeries and multiple medical conditions leaving her semi quadriplegic, wheelchair bound, and without the use of her left hand.  As those who love her, it is your prayers and faith in the healing power of God which have sustained her to this day and will continue to heal her.  Thank you to all who have prayed for Paizlee and the Jones family and will continue to uphold them with prayers and support.

As you know, Paizlee is currently at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital with complications after her last surgery.  Paizlee is currently on a nasal to duodenum feeding tube and is intubated to assist with her breathing.   It has been found that Paizlee’s respiratory rate declines to a dangerous level.

How can you pray?

Our hope and prayer is for Paizlee to be able to switch to a BiPAP ventilator at night to regulate her respiratory rate and have the ability to return home from the hospital.  Among the next steps will include physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. Paizlee will continue to be wheelchair bound and will have to wear a cervical thoracic brace due to 8 removed vertebra from her second surgery. A sleep study will be conducted to figure out how to regulate her breathing at night.

Paizlee’s Story:

For such a little person, Paizlee has a long story of struggle.  Paizlee Faith Jones was born on February 26th 2015 at Holy Cross hospital in Ft. Lauderdale. She is the second child born to Lindzey Jones and Marcus Brown. Paizlee is little sister to Trinity Grace Jones and has been loved since the moment she entered this world. The Jones family attends Christ Church United Methodist and Paizlee’s grandmother, Lisa Jones, and aunt Alexis Jones, serve in children’s ministry at Christ Church.

Paizlee is a smart, outgoing, curious, and bubbly four-year-old. Her courage and strength are steadfast.   She can easily turn a bad moment better with a smile or her world renown “eyebrow trick.”  Paizlee loves to play with her dolls and be next to her sister. Her favorite movies are the How to Train your Dragon series. Paizlee loves to color and play with her horses. Her favorite foods are steak and pizza.

In the spring of 2017, Paizlee started walking with her head tiled down and her neck extended. She would lose her balance and cry from pain if she was picked up certain ways. Paizlee’s mom Lindzey was concerned and took Paizlee to Broward Hospital where she was misdiagnosed with muscle spasms. On May 27, 2017, Paizlee’s symptoms worsened and her pain increased. Unhappy with the diagnosis, Lindzey took Paizlee to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital where she was misdiagnosed again with Torticollis. Lindzey asked ER doctors to perform an MRI. At that time, Lindzey and Paizlee were faced with an unfortunate situation. They were both uninsured. After medical staff were informed that Paizlee didn’t have insurance, doctors told Lindzey to take Paizlee to her primary physician and have them schedule an MRI.

On July 7, 2017 Paizlee was finally admitted to Joe DiMaggio after Lindzey was told she and her daughter would be sent home again. The next day, doctors viewed Paizlee’s scans and believed she has cyst in her spinal syrinx. It was not until later that day when the anesthesia from the MRI wore off that Lindzey realized Paizlee could not move any of her extremities. In a complete panic, Lindzey demanded that a neurologist come and see Paizlee. An emergency surgery was performed due to Paizlee’s lack of motor function. During surgery, doctors realized it was not a cyst in the spinal syrinx, but a tumor. Paizlee was diagnosed with Pilocytic Astrocytoma which expanded from her C3 to T4 in the spinal cord. Due to the location, only part of the tumor was able to be removed.   A new surgical plan was drawn and on July 12, 2017 Paizlee had her second surgery. Doctors were still unable to completely remove the tumor without causing further damage to her spinal cord.

After leaving the Joe DiMaggio in September 2017, Paizlee received intensive physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. She qualified for PPEC and at the age of three and began attending a specialized preschool program. This program allowed her to flourish socially and enabled her to have ongoing physical therapy. She began using her elbows to move around and with the new-found mobility, her confidence rose.

Paizlee continued having MRI’s every three months. At the end of 2018, Lindzey decided to get a second opinion on Paizlee’s medical care. Lindzey transfer Paizlee’s medical care to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. After performing an MRI, Paizlee’s new neurosurgeons informed Paizlee’s parents that since her original surgery, her tumor had grown back 110%. On May 8, 2019 Paizlee had her third surgery in attempts to remove the tumor. Due to the amount of scar tissue left from her first two surgeries, the surgeons were unable to completely remove the tumor leaving behind roughly 10% of the tumor. While recovering from this surgery Paizlee became ill with the RSV virus and pneumonia causing high spiked fevers. Paizlee currently breaths by paradoxical respiration. The RSV virus causes her to have intensive labored breathing. With Paizlee’s compromised respiratory system, she had to be intubated and restrained.
