Prayers for Joel

Hi my name is Marcia. This fund is for a dear friend for mine whose 6 year old son was taken into the ER with a headache, fever and stiff neck He was first diagnosed with meningitis. More tests were performed and it was discovered to be a rare and dangerous strain of Haemophilus influenzae.
Consulting physicians ordered a cat scan to see exactly what they were dealing with. The cat scan showed an abscess on the lining of his brain. At this point the doctors became aware that they were dealing with a life threatening situation. Joel was then transferred by ambulance to the Winnipeg Children s Hospital where he under went many more tests. At first the feeling was they should do surgery to lance the abscess. The team of specialists decided because the surgery was so invasive and dangerous that they would continue the antibiotics and see if they can get control of the infection.
At this point they feel it is being contained, but Joel continues to be closely monitored by numerous professionals. The waiting requires Joel to be in the Children's hospital for the treatments he will receive twice daily. Currently they are thinking that the minimum amount of time he will be there is another 6 weeks. Over that time they will be constantly testing and monitoring him. His mother needs to be with him 24 hours a day.
His mother will need to take a leave of absences from her job to provide around the clock care of Joel. The rest of the family will be at their home over an hour away from the hospital. His mother and father have been both by his side for these last two weeks to help proved the care he needs. There are many added expenses they have and will continue to incur. There are lost wages, food, parking and gas to name a few. We all know how difficult finances can be under normal circumstances and when they are unexpected and drawn out it can be much harder. It is my wish that we can help so that they can put their energy into helping care for Joel.
Thank you for taking the time to ready. Prayers for Joel and his family are greatly appreciated!
