On January 26, 2019, our dear friend, Joao Fuzetti, had a terrible dirt bike accident and had to be taken by medi-flight to Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin, TX. By the grace of God he survived, but he sustained very serious injuries.
Joao, a 37-year old father of three (8 year old twin boys and a 10 year old daughter) had to have emergency back surgery. He suffered 3 fractured and 5 broken vertebrae, a broken rib, broken sternum, broken collarbone, collapsed right lung, and injured diaphragm. The most severe and life altering injury was at the C7-C8 vertebrae, which resulted in paralysis. After almost 2 weeks in ICU Joao was finally stable enough to be transferred back to Houston, TX to continue his treatment at Memorial Hermann TIRR.
The road ahead is no doubt uncertain and will have many hurdles for everyone in Joao's family. However, despite all of the challenges, Joao is committed to recovery and motivated to getting back to being the father, husband, friend, and family member that we all know and love. His wife, Carolina, has been by his side since day 1 and has been an incredible source of strength for both Joao and their family.
Anyone who knows Joao and Carolina, knows that they would rather help others than receive help. Given the gravity of the situation, they are aware that they cannot do this alone and that accepting help from others is the only way that they will be able to get through the challenges that lie ahead. Aside from the astronomical immediate medical expenses, they will need to adapt their home to be wheelchair accessible, significant ongoing therapy, & medical equipment (wheelchair lift, vehicle, etc.) that Joao will need to adjust to his new life.
Many of you have reached out asking for a way to help the Fuzetti family during this time. Any donation, no matter what size, would make a profound difference to Joao and his family. Thank you so much for any help that you can give and please share this link with anyone you think might be inclined to help. The more people we reach, the more we can help Joao and Carolina. If you cannot donate, we just ask that you keep Joao and his family in your prayers.
