Hi my name is Lisa Brendel, I am Christy’s eldest sister and with the help of family and their closest friends, we have teamed up to organize this GoFundMe on behalf of my brother in law Jay.

On Friday, November 11, 2022 at 7:48am, Jay was a passenger when he was t-boned by another vehicle going speeds well beyond 55mph, on the same road that claimed the lives of both his son and his wife in 2011. The vehicle flipped onto Jay’s side, pinning him in his seat. After Jay was extracted from the vehicle and rushed to Stony Brook hospital, he was admitted as a level one trauma injury. Further testing determined that he has multiple neck and back fractures, bulging discs, and lacerations to his head.

The pain has been relentless and excruciating, rendering Jay helpless and unable to perform his normal day-to-day routine. Because of his injuries, he is now completely dependent on his wife Christy. As a parent of 4 very active and involved children, this is extremely stressful and unmanageable without help.

As the sole provider for his family, Jay is now faced with the hardship of being unable to support his wife, and their 4 children. Jay is completely unable to work in any capacity at this time and has a long road to recovery ahead of him. More specialists, doctors, and therapy are just a few appointments facing Jay and his family in the near future to determine the next obstacles that will be faced.

This accident has not only impacted this family emotionally, it’s effected them financially as well. No one can explain why these tragedies happen to good people, and no one can understand the plan. All we can do is extend ourselves and our help to do what we can to help the people we love in their most vulnerable time.
