Thank you all for taking the time to read our story and hear our prayers. My 7 week old nephew has been battling RSV/pneumonia for several weeks. We are asking for prayers for this sweet baby. Also, his parents have had to take time off work, and, of course, the medical bills that are piling up! He has been at Texas Children's Hospital for 2 weeks and at ST Elizabeth in Beaumont a week before that. His jet ride to TCH alone is close to $50,000 and we aren't sure if or how much insurance will be covering. He is heading in the right direction, but still has a long road to recovery! Here is a summary of what this precious baby has been through. On November 16th, Callyn was taken to the Dr and diagnosed with RSV. His symptoms weren't too bad so he was sent home on oral steroids and breathing treatments. November 17th, he woke up a little worse so he was taken back to the Dr and was admitted to the hospital for fluids iv meds and supportive care. November 20th he started declining and having more respiratory distress and the Dr made the call to transfer him to Texas Children's Hospital... Finally on November 21st at around 1:30 am, he and his mom headed to the airport to be transported by the Kangaroo Crew's jet to TCH. Before they left St E however, he had to be intubated and placed on a ventilator because he could no longer sustain his own airway. They have been ther now for 2 weeks with 2 failed extubation attempts. 1 due to swollen upper airways which is now resolved and 2nd due to a now possible secondary pneumonia. They are hoping to have successful extubation and off the vent on December 5th but still have a long road to recovery. As it stands right now he has minimal support from the vent. He has been on trials of breathing on his own and he does AMAZING! He is headed in the right direction of healing. It has just been a very long heart wrenching process having to watch your baby boy go through what he has been through. He has proven that he is a strong little boy! Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers. Keep them coming so we can get through these last few hurdles and get home.We understand that not everyone is able to give, especially at this time of year.
