This campaign was started by Shelby’s friends to raising funds after a serious motorcycle accident that has left her facing a long road to recovery.

After spending a lot of time piecing together what happened, we now understand that Shelby was riding straight ahead when a driver that was stopped on a left turn lane only, suddenly and without warning turned right into her lane without the right of way. Shelby hit the brakes as hard as she could but was unable to avoid the truck, and the crash caused devastating injuries.

Shelby was intubated on site and taken in critical condition to the trauma hospital, where doctors found that she had a lot of broken bones in her face, a broken pelvis, two broken wrists, internal bleeding and a fracture to base of her skull. Thankfully, the most critical nerves and blood vessels were protected from permanent damage. We are holding onto that blessing as she begins the long process of healing.

Shelby has already gone through several surgeries to repair and stabilize her injuries, with one more surgery to her face scheduled for today. Shelby had to be on the ventilator for a long time during her stay in ICU. Because of the injuries to her face and jaw, Shelby can not talk, and she needs help breathing and receiving nutrition while her body heals.

Both of Shelby’s arms are in casts. She will not be able to walk on her own for some time, and she will need intensive rehabilitation before she can safely return home.

Even through all of this, Shelby continues to show incredible strength. She is already working with physical therapy, slowly building strength, and meeting each day with courage, grace, and the same powerful spirit that everyone who knows her loves.

Shelby has spent so much of her life caring for others, protecting the ocean, rescuing marine life, and showing up for the planet with both heart and action. Anyone who knows her knows she carries a rare light. She makes people feel safe, hopeful, and deeply cared for.

Now, the community Shelby has spent her life loving and protecting has a chance to reflect that same love back to her.

The funds raised will help support Shelby through the long recovery ahead, including hospital costs, surgeries, rehabilitation, physical therapy, mobility support, transportation to follow up appointments, care at home, and the many unexpected costs that come with an accident like this.

This road will be long, but Shelby is still here. She is still fighting. Her spirit has not been broken.
