My name is Suanne. I own The Mail Room on Beverly and Norwalk Boulevards in Whittier, California. I’m asking for help and/or prayers for my mom, Sharon. She caught COVID which turned into pneumonia and caused a serious infection in her lungs. Her lungs are now so damaged that she will be on supplemental oxygen for the rest of her life.

A customer told me that if I started a GoFundMe page, he would donate $500 to help with her care, so here I am asking for your help. We had to pay for four days additional rehab after my mom’s three-week hospital stay, which was $2,500. Fortunately, insurance paid for a portable oxygen concentrator, and we’ve had a sturdy walker and transport chair donated by a good friend. We still need to get some odds and ends, and Sharon still needs some assistance with daily care and therapy. She is also afraid to do any cooking (because of the oxygen and tubing) and to be by herself at night.

We just came back from a visit with Sharon's pulmonologist, and the news is not encouraging. Her most recent CT scan shows more scarring in her lungs than in the previous scan. The doctor is not sure what is causing this, but he wants to put Sharon on a different medication that has a co-pay as high as $1,000. We're applying for discounts on this new medication and will let you know if we're successful. In the meantime, we can't afford to put her on it.

Family is taking turns being with Sharon, but we need to get some professional in-home care several days a week, so help with paying for that would be appreciated. Even with the donated equipment and insurance paying for the portable oxygen generator, we probably need $6,000 to help pay for rehab and for her ongoing care. We’re asking for whatever you can send, either monetary help or prayers. The first week she was sick, we didn’t know whether or not she would make it, and my customers, friends, and family prayed and prayed. The doctor told Sharon that it was a miracle she made it through the first week.
