Dear family and friends,

We want to share with you a very difficult situation we have recently gone through.

My wife was induced on December 23 at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. After two days of labor, our baby was born in the early morning of December 25. Unfortunately, after the delivery, a very serious complication occurred: when the placenta was being removed, the uterus completely inverted, causing severe hemorrhaging. My wife lost a large amount of blood and even lost her vital signs, so she had to undergo emergency surgery.

That same day, hours later, the uterus inverted again, and she suffered an even more severe hemorrhage, losing approximately 4.2 liters of blood. Humanly speaking, it is a miracle that she is alive, and we thank God for giving her a second chance.

She spent four days in intensive care in Southampton. During that time, I had to care for our baby on my own, feeding her formula since my wife was unable to breastfeed. Thank God, she began to respond and was later transferred to the maternity unit, where we stayed a few more days.

After being discharged, at a follow-up appointment, the obstetrician discovered that for the third time the uterus had inverted again, so she was transported by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital. There, we were informed that the uterus was once again inverted and that there were still retained placental fragments, which caused a severe infection. This also affected her bladder to the point that she is currently unable to urinate on her own.

She underwent another surgery. Thank God the operation was successful, but her bladder was injured, and she will be sent home with a catheter, trusting in God that this will be temporary and that she will heal soon.

As parents, it deeply pains us that my wife was not able to experience the normal mother–baby bonding from the beginning, nor have the calm recovery that every mother deserves. It has been an extremely difficult process, physically and emotionally, for our family.

Since December 23, I have had to be fully dedicated to caring for my wife and our daughter, so I have not been able to work during this time. With great humility, we share our situation; if anyone feels in their heart to support us financially, in addition to your prayers and messages, it would be a great help and a blessing for us. Any support, big or small, is received with deep gratitude.

Queremos compartir con ustedes una situación muy difícil que hemos vivido recientemente.

Mi esposa fue inducida el 23 de diciembre en el Hospital de Stony Brook Southampton. Después de dos días de trabajo de parto, nuestra bebé nació en la madrugada del 25 de diciembre. Lamentablemente, después del parto ocurrió una complicación muy grave: al momento de retirar la placenta, el útero se salió completamente, provocando una hemorragia severa. Mi esposa perdió una gran cantidad de sangre y llegó a perder sus signos vitales, por lo que fue intervenida quirúrgicamente de emergencia.

Ese mismo día, horas después, el útero volvió a desplazarse y sufrió otra hemorragia aún más grave, perdiendo aproximadamente 4.2 litros de sangre. Humanamente, es un milagro que esté con vida, y damos gracias a Dios por darle una segunda oportunidad.

Ella estuvo cuatro días en cuidados intensivos en Southampton. Durante ese tiempo me tocó cuidar solo a nuestra bebé, alimentándola con fórmula, ya que mi esposa no podía amamantar. Gracias a Dios, ella comenzó a reaccionar y luego pasó al área de maternidad, donde permanecimos algunos días más.

Después de ser dada de alta, en una cita de seguimiento el obstetra detectó que por tercera vez el útero se había vuelto a invertir, por lo que fue trasladada en ambulancia al hospital Stony Brook Universitario. Allí nos informaron que el útero estaba nuevamente invertido y que aún había restos de placenta, lo que causó una infección grave. Esto también afectó su vejiga, al punto de que actualmente no puede orinar por sí sola.

Fue sometida a otra cirugía. Gracias a Dios la operación salió bien, pero la vejiga quedó lastimada y será enviada a casa con sonda, confiando en Dios en que sea algo temporal y que pueda sanar pronto.

Como padres, nos duele profundamente que mi esposa no haya podido vivir el vínculo normal madre–bebé desde el inicio, ni tener la recuperación tranquila que toda mamá merece. Ha sido un proceso muy duro física y emocionalmente para nuestra familia.

Desde el 23 de diciembre he tenido que estar completamente dedicado al cuidado de mi esposa y de nuestra hija, por lo que no he podido trabajar durante este tiempo. Con mucha humildad compartimos nuestra situación; si alguien siente en su corazón apoyarnos de manera económica, además de sus oraciones y mensajes, será de gran ayuda y una bendición para nosotros. Todo apoyo, grande o pequeño, lo recibimos con profundo agradecimiento.
