Prayers and Support for Ollie

Before he was born, we knew Ollie would need open heart surgery. The best surgeon for his defect was in California, so we made the decision to head to California for what we expected to be a 3-4week stay. We've now been here for 10 weeks.

The first surgery to repair his defect was successful, but due to complications 3days later he underwent an unexpected 2nd surgery where they put in a mechanical valve and a pacemaker.

He recovered quickly from surgery and we were discharged - knowing we needed to stay in California for follow ups, until we were cleared to travel home - due to the complications they asked us to stay 2weeks instead of 1.

Within 3days of discharge, we were readmitted due to issues with his blood work. 5days later, on Labor Day, we discharged again.

About a week later, after multiple follow up appointments and a very rough weekend of teething, we were readmitted again. The morning of September 8th, Ollie couldn't keep anything down, so we went to the ER.

They found Ollie had a brain bleed - this is rare and extremely tricky because with his heart having a mechanical valve, he needs to be on blood thinners for it to function properly, but the blood thinners were making the brain bleed worse.

The next day Ollie had 15+ seizures - we stopped counting at 15 - in less than a 5hour period. Each time he had a seizure his oxygen levels would drop quickly and he had to be sedated and intubated. Testing showed the bleed had grown, but with his complex medical history and age Ollie didn't meet the criteria for surgery. Luckily he didn't need it, after a 5week stay in the hospital his brain showed signs of healing and we were discharged.

He was discharged on Monday, but on Tuesday morning, Ollie's lips looked purple and his oxygen levels dropped extremely low 4 times before we could get him to the hospital. Once in the ER, his oxygen dropped another 3 times and we were readmitted. Doctors are still trying to determine the cause.

With this latest admission we are nervous to drive him home once discharged - since his oxygen levels dropped while he was on oxygen. We are looking into flying to keep the travel time shorter, rather than driving across the desert. We've asked if a hospital to hospital transfer would be possible, but insurance won't cover it because we're already at one of the best children's hospitals in America.

So here we are on our 4th hospital stay in California, away from our support system and unable to work. Ollie's dad went back to AZ for work, and has come back twice during emergencies only to have to leave again. Ollie's mom has exhausted all leave and vacation as of this next Monday. Thankfully, we are staying at the Ronald McDonald House and have incredibly supportive families who have helped us make it this far.

Ollie's complex medical needs will require close monitoring and medications the rest of his life. This fundraiser is to help with current and future medical bills, as well as living and travel expenses.

With currently no end in sight - please pray for Ollie. All we want is our little warrior safe, and our family reunited back home.
