Michael, my brother-in-law, has recently been diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma. This was found by "accident." He was having problems with blood clots in his legs, so they did a chest X-ray to make sure that it hadn't moved to his lungs. On that X-ray, they saw a nodule on his lung and also a lesion on his liver. After further testing of the liver, a 2-inch mass was found on his kidney. This was suspicious of renal cell carcinoma. After seeing several specialists, he was officially diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma. The kidney oncologist has decided that partially removing the kidney would be the best option for Michael. As of right now, we do not know what stage the cancer is and will not know for certain until the surgeon checks to see if the cancer is only on the kidney or if it has spread to the tubes. If so, he will then have his whole kidney removed and we will discuss options. His surgery is scheduled for January 2nd.

In the meantime, Michael will be having a test done on his liver to check and see exactly what the lesion is. He also followed up with the pulmonologist about the lung nodule, but we are waiting to hear from the doctor on those results.

As you can imagine, the weight of this is so heavy! Julie, my sister, is the only one that works because Michael stays home and takes care of their special needs son, Landon. She will be out of work while Michael is recovering. We are not sure how long this will be because we aren't sure exactly what the plan is until after surgery. I'm asking anyone that can, to please donate if you are able. Julie has missed a lot of work already because of the appointments and she doesn't get any paid time off with her job.
