This is my dear, beloved, and very hardworking husband: Serafin. To most, he is better known as Junior. My husband is the 2nd of 4 children and the only male born to his mother and late father (RIP+). Junior lost his father at the age of 12. At the age of 15 he started working, and by the time he was 17 he was working full time to help his mom and his sisters out. Junior is no stranger to the pain and suffering of this world. He had to grow up fast without the guidance of a much needed father; while his mom was and is amazing and did everything she could to provide: a child always needs his/her father.

Eventually, Junior and I met, got married and longed to grow our little family of 2. We suffered through 2 years of infertility. After many tears and prayers over the span of 2 yrs, our prayers were finally answered with a baby girl. Life was and is: beautiful, but never without its challenges.

Junior went to barber school during our first year as newly weds, but he never imagined the possibility of becoming a business owner: it was a distant, almost impossible dream; but with faith in God, nothing is impossible. We established our beloved barbershop in December of 2016. Soon we were blessed with our second much prayed and hoped for baby, our baby boy. We were ecstatic, but shortly after, we were heartbroken: our baby girl was diagnosed with leukemia. Thanks be to God and everyone who helped and prayed for us we got through that hurdle all the while trying to navigate through closures and re- openings of our business during COVID. Again, thanks be to God and everyone who helped and prayed for us, we managed to overcome that hurdle too.

Once again, we humbly find ourselves in much need of prayers and financial help. Junior had been struggling with his balance, vision, and walking. What we thought was sciatica and/or anxiety, as told by the specialists, turned out to be Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering (myelin sheath) of the nerves, disrupting communication between the brain and the rest of the body. This condition can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including extreme fatigue, vision problems, muscle weakness, coordination issues, cognitive challenges, and more. It has been a very challenging 3 weeks as we navigate through this new diagnosis, make lifestyle changes, and figure out our financial situation. This isn’t the end of the road, it is reversible, but it is not curable.

We are huge believers in the power of prayer. Este es mi querido, amado y muy trabajador esposo: Serafin. Para la mayoría, es más conocido como Junior. Mi esposo es el segundo de cuatro hijos y el único varón que tuvieron su madre y su difunto padre (EPD+). Junior perdió a su padre a la edad de 12 años. A los 15 años comenzó a trabajar y, para cuando cumplió los 17, ya trabajaba a tiempo completo para ayudar a su madre y a sus hermanas. Junior no es ajeno al dolor y al sufrimiento de este mundo. Tuvo que madurar rápidamente, sin la guía de un padre que tanto necesitaba; y aunque su madre fue —y sigue siendo— una mujer extraordinaria que hizo todo lo posible por proveer, un niñ@ siempre necesita a su padre.

Con el tiempo, Junior y yo nos conocimos, nos casamos y anhelábamos hacer crecer nuestra pequeña familia de dos. Tuvimos que atravesar dos años de infertilidad. Tras muchas lágrimas y oraciones a lo largo de esos dos años, nuestras plegarias finalmente fueron respondidas con la llegada de una bebita. La vida era —y sigue siendo— hermosa, aunque nunca sin desafíos.

Junior asistió a la escuela de barbería durante nuestro primer año de recién casados, pero nunca imaginó la posibilidad de convertirse en dueño de su propio negocio: era un sueño lejano, casi imposible; sin embargo, con fe en Dios, nada es imposible. Inauguramos nuestra querida barbería en diciembre de 2016. Poco después, fuimos bendecidos con nuestro segundo bebé —muy deseado y por el que tanto habíamos orado—: un varoncito. Estábamos eufóricos, pero poco tiempo después, nuestro corazón se partió en mil pedazos: a nuestra niña le diagnosticaron leucemia. Gracias a Dios y a todas las personas que nos ayudaron y oraron por nosotros, logramos superar ese obstáculo; todo ello mientras intentábamos sortear los cierres y reaperturas de nuestro negocio durante la pandemia del CORONA. Una vez más, gracias a Dios y a todos los que nos brindaron su ayuda y sus oraciones, logramos superar también esa adversidad.

Ahora, una vez más, nos encontramos humildemente necesitados de oraciones y ayuda económica. Junior ha estado luchando con problemas de equilibrio, visión, y dificultad para caminar. Lo que pensábamos que era ciática y/o ansiedad —tal como nos indicaron los especialistas— resultó ser Esclerosis Múltiple (EM). La EM es una enfermedad autoinmune crónica en la que el sistema inmunológico ataca por error la cubierta protectora (vaina de mielina) de los nervios, interrumpiendo así la comunicación entre el cerebro y el resto del cuerpo. Esta afección puede provocar una amplia gama de síntomas, que incluyen fatiga extrema, problemas de visión, debilidad muscular, dificultades de coordinación, desafíos cognitivos y más. Han sido tres semanas muy difíciles mientras asimilamos este nuevo diagnóstico, realizamos cambios en nuestro estilo de vida y tratamos de resolver nuestra situación financiera. Este no es el final del camino; la condición es reversible, aunque no tiene cura.

Creemos firmemente en el poder de la oración. Les pedimos humildemente sus oraciones; si les es posible y están dispuestos a hacerlo, por favor ayúdennos a recaudar fondos para mantenernos a flote —tanto a nosotros como a la barbería— hasta que logremos estabilizar nuestra situación.
