Family, Friends, and to those who this may reach,
My name is Jon, and I'm a concerned brother-in-law to Joshua "Josh" Hatfield, who this fundraiser is for.
Josh is the son of John Hatfield (deceased) and Dawn & Bob Coffee
Late last Saturday night, April 25th, our family received a phone call that no one ever hopes to get. We received news that my wife's youngest brother was in a significant motorcycle accident. Obviously, upon hearing this, we thought the worst—that he was no longer with us. However, by the grace of God, Joshua is in fact still here with us on this Earth.
We are still beyond grateful that he survived the horrific accident, but Joshua has a very long road to recovery ahead. He required heart surgery plus two other surgeries for multiple broken bones and two collapsed lungs. He remains in the ICU since then, recovering and being monitored.
The initial plan was to move him to a different hospital floor where he would continue his recovery, but yesterday, April 30th, things took a turn for the worse. He started not knowing who he was or where he was, and there were clear signs of a brain injury even though there hadn't been any signs the first 5 days. Upon further evaluation, it was determined that Josh had micro bleeding on each side of his brain due to the accident. After a long night with lots of testing and praying, thankfully this morning (May 1st) his memory was back to normal, but the doctors are still trying to determine what caused this to happen. We will update when we hear more on this.
To make things even more difficult than they already have been, Joshua will be responsible for his own medical bills. The driver at fault was uninsured. Joshua was also uninsured. He had motorcycle insurance prior but forgot to renew it after the bike was out of commission for a year, not running because of it being broken down. This is now a tragic situation also without health insurance. So he's facing an unimaginable amount of medical bills on top of a year-long recovery.
We are grateful for everyone who has joined us in prayer for Joshua over the last week. There is still a long road ahead with a lot of unknowns. Any donation will help cover his medical costs and be a huge help during his time of need. Even if you can't financially donate, please continue to pray for Joshua and our family during this difficult time.
