After being sent home from the ER three different times and told it was “just the flu.” We knew something wasn’t right. On January 29th, our 8-year-old son Braxton was finally admitted to The Helen Devos Children's Hospital.
Since that day, Braxton has undergone three brain surgeries. Doctors had to drain dangerous fluid from his brain to relieve pressure, place a temporary drain, remove a tumor, and eventually place a permanent programmable shunt. We are still waiting to learn whether the tumor is cancerous.
There have been complications that the doctors have said they’ve never seen before. And currently trying to come up with a successful resolution to help our innocent little boy return home, where every 8 year old belongs.
Mom and I have been at his bedside 24/7.
Meanwhile, his brother Blake who is only 11, has had to stay nearly two hours away with grandparents. Our family being separated during something like this has been incredibly hard on all of us.
When Braxton is strong enough to leave the hospital, he will spend weeks in rehabilitation learning how to eat, talk, and walk again.
We are doing everything we can to stay strong for our boys, but the financial strain of being away from work, traveling back and forth, and preparing for rehab is heavy.
If you feel led to donate or even just share this, it would mean more than we can ever say. And if nothing else, please keep Braxton in your prayers.
Thank you for standing with our family during the hardest season of our lives.
Funds raised will go directly toward uncovered medical expenses, travel and lodging costs, lost wages from being by Braxton’s side, and ongoing recovery needs. This support allows us to focus on his healing without falling behind financially. Also making it easier to stay close to loved ones.
