On the evening of September 19th at 11:50pm, my 14-year-old daughter and her friends were hit head-on by a drunk driver in Kalispell Montana, 2 miles from home. The accident happen in front of the Evergreen Firehall. The quick reflexes of the 17 year old driver saved the lives of the teens in the car although they were ultimate stuck and all suffering life changing injuries. Madalynn was in the back seat wearing a seatbelt, where she sustained the most critical of injuries.

The impaired driver in the other vehicle was driving down the middle turn lane and veared into oncoming traffic. After impact his truck slid on its side 175 feet down the road before it came to a stop. According to police he was going roughly 60-65mph in a 45.

My daughter has a fractured lower back, a fracture hip and seperated pelvis,broken right wrist and left hand, broken nose and fractured eye socket, spleen, colon, and intestinal damage, torn aorta fixed with 2 stents, 3 broken ribs that have lacerated her right lung, a blood clot in her neck and brain which caused a major stroke, due to brain swelling doctors performed an emergency craniotomy to removed the right side of her skull to relieve pressure which will be reattached in 6 weeks. She will need 2 more brain surgeries as well as multiple surgeries across her body. Thankfully the surgeons here preform between 60 and 70 craniotomies a year on children and they are very hopeful she will pull thru. She has brain activity on both side of her brain which is promising and the best news so far. The right side is slower due to the stroke and she will be coming home with disabilities which are still unknown.

Maddie was life-flighted to Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. I flew down with her in a 6 person aircraft with only my ID and the clothes I was wearing. The outcome is unknown at this point, but the expenses of being 9 hours away from home will mount up quickly with housing back home that will still need paid, food, medical expenses, and making our home handicap accessible due to our daughters brain damage.

I am the sole income provider because my husband, Maddie's dad, is disabled due to heart failure and a stroke. He recently had spinal surgery in Missoula mid September that he is still recoving from, so I am caring for him as well here in SLC. To make matters worse, he stepped out of the car on his way inside the Childrens Hospital and tore the ligament in his left ankle. He will be having emergency surgery at another hospital here in SLC Wednesday.

I'm an exhausted and very scared mother.. mentally.. physically.. emotionally..

This is an extremely difficult, tragic time for our family and my daughter.

Absolutely any help would be so appreciated to help us get thru this and made Madalynns transition home successful when the time comes.
