Kai’s Story:
On Monday morning, April 15th, 2019 Kai started his day off like any normal day. He started his morning by going to early head start at Parkview Learning Center, in Virginia, MN.
Mikai unexpectedly started experiencing flu like symptoms at school, so not long after, his teacher texted Quanda saying, “That Mikai wasn’t feeling well and acting weird and that she should come get him.”
Quanda rushed over to the school to go pick up Mikai. After seeing his condition, her motherly instincts kicked in, and she immediately rushed him to Essentia Health: Emergency Room in Virginia, Minnesota. After being seen by the doctors, they advised the family to take Mikai down to St. Mary’s hospital in Duluth, Minnesota for further evaluations.
Arriving in Duluth, the nurses and doctors recognized his intense symptoms, and decided to run MRI’s and other scans to uncover what was causing Mikai to become so sick. The scans came back and exposed a mass in his brain. The mass is pushing on the optical nerve, causing loss of motor functions, such as difficulties walking, abnormal eye movements, and drowsiness.
As of now, the doctors and family have decided to go forward with trying a method of steroids for the next 5 days to see if it decreases the size of the mass, if that fails, then they will need to have a biopsy done to explore further medical precautions.
We ask for donations at this time to help compensate for the medical expenses Quanda and her family are going to be enduring over these more difficult times. Kai is a tough kid! And we ask you keep their families in your thoughts and prayers.

Our mission is to get Kai back to his spontaneous-loving self! The family thanks you for your love, prayers, and support during these times. ❤️
