My son Shawn started randomly having seizures in November of 2023. They were so bad we had to intubate him for several days. Upon waking up he had lost around 15 years of memories. Since then he has had to go to Vanderbilt for many tests. He's had several procedures done to try to slow his seizures down. Along with being on 5 seizure medications. His wife Allison has to stay with him at all times. His last procedure was a SEEG which they drilled 16 holes in his head to basically do a very in depth EEG. Upon doing this they discovered that his seizures, although we are only seeing maybe one a day, are not stopping. He is staying in a seizure. They scheduled for him to have his right front temporal lobe and hippocampus removed from his brain in July. They have now decided that it needs to be done immediately. They have scheduled it for May 11th. His doctors believe that his right front temporal lobe will kill him before July. This has put a very big burden emotionally and financially on our family. We will be there for at least two weeks. Shawn is 31 years old and has so much more life to live. However, if we don't try this surgery he won't. Anyone who knows him knows how intelligent, respectful, and just an all around amazing husband, son, brother and man he is. He has had so much of that taken from him now being epileptic. We are hoping and praying that this will give him some quality of life back. Shawn will need to stay close to Vanderbilt, 4 hours from home, the first week he is out. We hope to possibly get an air bnb so that he can be as comfortable as possible. Allison and I will be watching over him very closely as this surgery has a lot of risks.
