Derek J. Coronato

4/30/24 Unfortunately, Derek officially passed away last night. He managed to breathe on his own for many hours after being removed from breathing instruments, but eventually succumbed peacefully. In honor of Derek’s humor, Ralph said it was because he’s as stubborn as they come and he’d expect nothing less from Derek.

He’s going to be missed by so many. Rest in Peace Derek. Love, Ralph and Miss Kim.

ps I wonder why he kept calling me that even after I got married. it was always how he greeted me. Until I see you again Derek.

The neurologist has urged to remove Derek’s feeding and breathing tube since there has been no improvement or signs of life. This will take place on Monday, April 29, 2024 and he will unfortunately pass away quickly.

Barb will now be planning a funeral for her husband. Details will be posted s as soon as scheduled.

Please continue donating as every little bit helps! Thank you to all who have already donated. It’s greatly appreciated.

This GoFund Me is for Derek and Barbara Coronato. Derek is one of Ralph’s closest friend….. and is sometimes more like a brother. They’ve been friends forever and literally two peas in a pod, cut from the same cloth, etc. Derek and his wife, Barb, are in need of prayers, more prayers and some financial assistance.

Derek, who is still young at only 60 yrs old, is in Strong Memorial Hospital after suffering two strokes last weekend. He still hasn’t regained consciousness and underwent two surgeries to remove blood clots; one of which was on his brain stem. That caused a second, more devastating, stroke. Though he was showing signs of improvement whenever the doctor performed a pinch test, that quickly stopped several days ago. Barb meets with the neurologist this week to, unfortunately, discuss next steps.

Derek’s income is “essential” as his wife, Barb, is on disability, and that just doesn’t cut it anymore. She lost both her legs a few years back and has her prosthetics, she affectionately calls “Peggy & Sue”. This was all due to her diabetes along with her kidney disease.

These two caring people (would literally give the shirts off their back!) can’t seem to catch a break. Barb now has this added financial burden along with traveling back & forth to Rochester. What we take for granted (our 2 legs), she has to struggle with performing basic daily functions. She also has the unbearable sorrow as her husband lays in a coma, not knowing what the future holds. This fear weighs heavy on her.

This GoFund Me is to help lighten her financial burden. Please donate, even if it’s just $5! A little bit makes a huge difference to Barb as she now faces an insurmountable financial burden and the reality that her husband may never return home.
