December of 2019 when our dear friend Michelle and the love of her life Hazel decided to move back to the Philippines. It was a life changing experience especially for Michelle.  As many of you know already, Michelle has a very active lifestyle. She enjoys working out as well as helping others do the same.

Unfortunately, late last year Michelle’s doctor discovered a tumor on her right eye. The tumor was removed in January and results came in from her biopsy in February. She was diagnosed with a rare form of disease called  Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. 

"Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a type of cancer that affects glandular structures. Around the eye there is a lacrimal (lac-kree-mall) gland that makes tears. Orbital adenoid cystic carcinoma usually occurs in patients 20-50 years old. When an adenoid cystic carcinoma of the lacrimal gland grows, it typically pushes the eye down, towards the nose and forward. It can cause bulging of the eye (called proptosis) and it also invades local nerves causing pain.", source www.eyecancer.com. 

Michelle is now recovering from her surgery and will have to go through series of tests before she start her radiation therapy. Radiation therapy is needed to kill remaining potential cancer cells to ensure that it will not spread in her body. 

Sadly, Philippines does not have good healthcare plan for their citizens. Everything will  be paid out of pocket and this will be too much of a burden  for her if she's stressing herself how she can pay for all her medical treatments.
We want our dear friend to focus on getting better and we want to extend our help in any way we can.
