Prayers and FUNDS to help the Steingard Family

Yesterday I was given some shocking news!

Someone I consider a real friend (DALE STEINGARD) was diagnosed with stage 2/3 cancer and offered 2 solutions: Go into palliative care or move forward with an aggressive chemo and radiation treatment with a 20% chance of the radiation nicking the stomach and bleeding out.

Surgery was NOT an option due to the location of the mass.

 

After feeling progressively more ill since May 2021, Dale experienced a “sore arm/shoulder then moved to a sore back" , that never really got better, By summer Dale was in almost continuous pain and then developed issues with swallowing his food, even throwing up.

The family began to seek ACTIVELY advice from the healthcare profession.

The pandemic made it impossible to see his family doctor and by the end of November the situation was desperate.

A drastic and rapid weight loss of 45 pounds, an inability to keep food down or getting stuck in the esophagus made what was normal very abnormal , making him weak, unenergetic and depressed, an otherwise very healthy man was finally able to get a CT scan Dec 2021.

“A spot” was seen and no further details were given, blood work was then ordered.

Next a trip to Sunnybrook regional Cancer Hospital to see a Thoracic Surgeon and have a PET scan/more bloodwork was arranged in Jan 2022 and finally this past week a "meeting" at RVH Dr. confirms the worst

Stage 2 or possibly 3 Cancer near the stomach and lungs.

 

Oh Wow in the space of less than a year a vibrant, healthy, happy Father, Husband and friend is now facing some serious medical intervention. I have set up this Go-Fund me to assist this family with some major out of pocket expenses related to his treatment and on-going care.

 

Dale Steingard is truly one of the nicest, most decent beings I know. He is a wonderful friend, husband, and a great Dad too. A Christian man who practices his faith by his walk in life, Dale was also “laid off” from his job of 33 years working at Metroland Media aka The Barrie Advance (his other family and community). The hobby farm in which they loved to work on, is now non- existent. They have had to sell their farm animals and ignore any work that is to be done, as there is not enough energy to even exit the home as their life is 100% survival now.

 

Darlene, his wife a well known children's Entertainer, teacher, tutor operated from their Phelpston home studio. These two are so well known and loved by scores of former pupils – my own daughter included, and throughout the Christian Community.

 

About 34 years ago Dale beat another nasty cancer Hodgkin’s lymphoma which he beat. The memories are real and reliving it is even more scary. Dale has a great desire to beat this nasty tumour too!

Darlene and Dale are a true love story and they are the best example of a married couple – they actually make marriage look EASY Darlene really needs to focus as much as she can on Dale’s care and recovery and yet in order to keep the household afloat her income is also necessary.

Both sons are helping emotionally and supportive as much as they are able as well as a few close family friends, especially with the driving daily back and forth DAILY to RVH for treatment!

Darlene worked in the nursing field in her early 20's and is a great asset to Dale’s care but she also has mobility issues and therefore requires the assistance of others for lifting, support, etc.

 

My number one request is for Urgent and Ardent prayer. This family needs Peace and Grace and a freedom form Fear in order to continue this battle.

There is an Old Testament story in Exodus about Moses going into battle and God told Moses to keep his staff held high and they would win the battle. Moses was not in the physical battle he was in a spiritual battle and as he grew weary two other men stepped in and helped him hold his arms, and the staff high.

THIS is what needs to be done for the Steingard family ASAP.

 

After a year of not knowing what was causing Dale’s illness they get the shocking news that even a surgery won't cure him and only a 20 % chance this treatment will work to remove this tumour could kill him as it is a very intense radiation – so we will be praying for the family and the medical team too.

 

In the meantime, we are asking for financial donations to cover the costs of gas, medical supplies ( feeding tube and prescriptions) plus so much more, "special foods required” since Dale is on a feeding tube. The family are also seeking Naturopathic care as well as additional out of pocket adjuvant therapies that increase his chances of survival.

We need to ease the financial burden for Dale & Darlene so they can spend this time together at Dale’s side. After 30 + years of marriage, it is a privilege to be supportive of your spouse in their hours of need.
