Hello everyone, and thank you for taking the time to read Nito’s story. Nito was born on Ash Wednesday of this year. We knew from the beginning he was going to be so special. He is the most loving, crazy, and gentle cat. The last eight months with him have been amazing, and he is loved dearly.
My sister and I never thought we would be going through this nightmare. Nito went missing Wednesday, December 10th. We searched for him, but we couldn’t find him. After no luck, we hoped he would come back home. After three days of not knowing where he was, he finally showed up back home Friday, December 12th. From what we could see, his back left leg was broken. We weren’t sure what happened to him or where he had been. No vet in town was able to see him Friday. Saturday morning, we took him to a vet office that is first come, first serve basis, and thankfully he was seen. The doctor let us know Nito’s leg was completely broken, and the only thing he could do was to amputate it. His leg was amputated Saturday. After his surgery, he seemed to be doing fine, but unfortunately, on Monday morning, his doctor called us to let us know they noticed his breathing was not normal. After further testing, they found out he had a diaphragmatic hernia. From what the doctor explained to us, all his organs were pushed up into his chest cavity. This was most likely caused by trauma, like being hit by a car. Without surgery, the doctors let us know he wouldn’t make it, but he was not strong enough to undergo surgery. Monday afternoon, the vet’s office called us to let us know that he had gotten strong enough for the surgery. After waiting for what seemed like forever, we got the call telling us that the surgery went well and that the doctor was able to put his organs back in place and close the hole in his diaphragm. The doctor told us now we just had to wait and hope he would survive. After a restless night, we received a call Tuesday morning letting us know Nito’s breathing was better, and he ate a little bit of food. We were finally able to visit him Tuesday afternoon. Seeing him without his leg and so weak was so heartbreaking for my sister and me. We talked to him, but he is not like himself at all. He’s still not out of the woods, but we are praying that sweet Nito makes it out of this.
After two emergency surgeries, many rounds of fluids and antibiotics, and having to spend many days at the vet, we know that his vet bill will be significantly large. We kindly ask for a donation to cover Nito’s vet bill. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
