To know Eddie is to love him. We rescued this little ginger-bean at one week old, and he quickly became the heart of our home. From round the clock feedings, to litter training, to copious amounts of playtime and snuggles, he has been the best boy and has given and received so much love in the little time we have gotten to share with him.
On January 4th, we woke up to one of our worst fears. Our sweet boy could not move his back legs, and was meowing in distress.
After several hours in the emergency room, we had a diagnosis: Feline Aortic Thromboembolism (FATE).
A blood clot had formed in his lower abdomen, cutting off blood flow to his lower extremities. This is a life-threatening disease, and the road to recovery will be a long one. The chances of recovery are slim (but not unheard of). The next few hours and days will be crucial, but this little boy has so much fight in him. Right now, he is fighting for his life in one of the best animal hospitals in NYC, Schwarzman Animal Medical Center. We are staying by his side and monitoring every hour, so that we can make the right decisions for him along the way.
We are asking for help to cover the costs of Eddie's emergency room visit and hospital stay, and incidental costs along the way such as travel to and from the hospital. The vets estimate a total cost of $15,000, and we are fortunate to have a medical care credit card that covered the deposit. But the cost of care continues to go up.
We appreciate any thoughts, prayers, and financial donations you can provide at this time. Any little bit goes a long way toward making this painful process easier.
With love and gratitude,
Juanita and Andrew
