Warriors For Matthew Coker
Donation protected
As many of you know, Matthew was born with a severe heart condition. Through the care of excellent physicians, Matthew has been able to grow and thrive with this illness. Just shy of age 4, Matthew had a successful open-heart surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. This corrected a valve condition and helped Matthew continue to grow and live a normal life. Over the past couple years, he has excelled in school, played sports (even winning a championship game in baseball!) and continues to be the best big brother to Thompson and Charlotte.
In December 2019, Matthew went through some additional testing and found that his heart was not operating at an acceptable capacity and he would require a heart transplant. Matthew checked into Monroe Carol Jr Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt on May 14th, 2020 and waited there for his new perfect heart until August 4th, 2020 when they received the call a heart was available. Understanding fully what this gift from God meant for the donor’s family the Coker’s have continued to pray for their unimaginable loss daily. Since Matthew’s transplant there have been many ups and downs for this amazingly strong little boy and his family, and Matthew continues to live in the hospital with either mom or dad by his side.
We are hoping to raise these funds to help this precious family as they transition out of the hospital and hotel into temporary housing in Nashville. We hope these funds will help with their continued healthcare, housing, food, and transportation costs while they navigate Mathew’s care at Vanderbilt all while still balancing the rest of their work and family responsibilities on Signal Mountain.
Matthew's mom Megan had this to share: “We know that the Lord has a plan for our little buddy and that he is ultimately in His care. Our faith in Him has never been stronger. Our Lord will continue to walk alongside us on Matthew’s path of healing. We thank God every day for our blessings and surrounding us with the greatest friends and family. Below is scripture from Matthew’s healing service that brings us so much comfort and want to share with you. We appreciate your support, prayers, and words of hope and encouragement through this difficult time”.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:5-7
