Aloha everyone! My name is Kaliko and my younger brother Kaleo aka Baba, was just diagnosed with Leukemia. He is 20 years old. He went in for a routine check up on July 24, 2015. It was during his check up that his pcp found reasons to worry. His pcp flew him out to Honolulu immediately and sent him straight to Moanalua Kaiser where they would under go tests to figure out what was going on. After all the blood work and tests, he was tested positive for Leukimia. Although we, as in myself and my family lost our minds playing the waiting game while the doctors tried to figure out what exacty it was that was ailing him, we did our best to be strong and we just prayed, prayed and prayed. We also asked for prayers during this difficult time and received an outpouring of love, prayers and support. I believe that those prayers were received and heard because the doctors diagnosed him with a curable Leukemia. When we heard the word "curable" we rejoiced and thanked everyone for their prayers because we know that it was the love, prayers and support from our loved ones and friends that provided our Baba with the healing he needed to make this battle one we can win. The doctors have such a positive outlook for my brother and our journey as a family, and that in it's self, gave us such joy and hope. His PCP/Oncologist wants him to stay in Honolulu for 9 months! That's where things get hard. We all live and work in Hilo on the Big Island and we're now having to plan accordingly to figure out a plan to accommodate the 9 months of treatment in O'ahu. Also, we'll be needing to rent a studio and buy a car so those are some serious expenses. We've come to the decision that our father will be moving up there to be with him for the duration of his 9 months of treatment while our mother will be flying up every weekend. We're goin to have some major commuting costs but we should be able to manage. We don't want to ask for much, just what y'all can spare. We would love prayers as well because they seem to be working wonders. I would like to take the time to thank each and everyone of you who take the time to read, pray and or donate to our cause, and from the bottom of my heart I send out a thank u and prayer for u and your ohana!
