Millie is a sweet, two-month-old baby girl who has suffered from chronic GI issues, as well as feeding issues since birth. Through oral tie revisions and formula changes, Millie showed no improvement. After discussing her ongoing issues with her pediatrician, we were referred to Le Bonheur to be seen by their GI team. Millie was admitted on 1/7 for poor weight gain, chronic GI issues, and classified as failure to thrive.

Since being admitted, Millie has undergone many trial and error tests to see what worked best for her little body, as well as many labs to try to pinpoint what is the exact cause of all of this. Her GI team believes she has NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis) and some form of carbohydrate malabsorption. Due to her poor weight gain and no success with trial and error tests, her GI team has put in a TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition) via PICC line to allow Millie to receive nutrition while slowly trying to reintroduce formula into her system. They said this process will take several weeks.

During this incredibly difficult time, Millie’s mom, Bailey, must remain by her side full-time to support her care and recovery. This means Bailey will be unpaid while staying with Millie, creating a significant financial strain on their family. To make matters even harder, Bailey will be laid off from her position at Cadence Bank in June due to a reduction in workforce, eliminating her income entirely.

Luke continues to work full-time to provide what stability he can, but their family is stretched thin emotionally and financially. Their son, Liam, who is just 17 months old, is currently being cared for by Bailey and Luke’s parents. While they are deeply grateful for their help, being separated from Liam during this time has been extremely heartbreaking as parents.
