Mickey Vogt is very near and dear to so many of us. He is kind hearted, loving, caring, happy and proud. Many of us have the best memories with the Vogt family and know how amazing Mickey is.
He has spent many years volunteering in his community, he has coached, umpired, and has always lent a helping hand wherever and whenever it’s needed. Mickey has also served our country and is a proud veteran.
Mickey is now retired but has kept himself very busy as the family chef, baby sitter, personal chauffeur, Mr. fix it, errand runner, personal shopper and always had a project to tackle. Doing all the above brings him so much joy. Any time spent with his wife Connie, his children Heather, Colby and Katie and his six grandchildren is time well spent and means the world to him. His family brings him so much pride and he has always been their rock. The glue that hold them together or in his case the duct tape that makes them stick together. He loves to help others, but now it’s our turn to be there to help him.
Friday August 28th, late morning Connie came home and found Mickey laying on the garage floor unresponsive, he had fallen off of his ladder. He was rushed to the hospital and went straight into surgery to remove part of his skull, due to major brain swelling. He was then placed in a medically induced coma to get testing started and assess his condition. The doctors let the family know they need to prepare for a long road of recovery and to try to take it one day at a time. Mickey is now out of the coma but remains in ICU. He is able to move one side of his body and seems to be responding with facial expressions. We are happy to say he recognized his wife and children’s voices over the phone. Due to covid-19 the family is sadly unable to be with him. Mickey is expected to be in the hospital for some time and needs many tests and lots of healing before he is able to leave the area for rehabilitation.
I am hoping, with the help of friends and our wonderful community, to take some of the financial burden off the Vogt’s. Long term hospital stay along with the long term rehabilitation ahead will add up quickly and Connie is planning to take the time off to stay near the rehab facility in order to give Mickey the love, support and motivation to recover and get him home. Knowing people want to help I, being a very close family friend, took it upon myself to set this up knowing the Vogt’s would never ask for help, but also knowing they truly need it right now. Hoping Connie doesn’t find out until we have hit our goal. I know every bit will help ease the stress of debt and allow them to focus on the healing process. I will be sharing all the comments left by you all with Mickey once I am able to, so please leave a message for him if you wish. I will keep updates on Mickeys progress on here. Thank you all, prayers are much appreciated too.
