Lennon Sky was a tiny 4 month old baby girl when a 13 cm tumor was removed from her abdomen. Lennon was born a healthy, lively baby at St. Luke’s hospital in Nampa, Idaho on
May 21, 2021. She was welcomed into the world by first time parents, Rylee and Christopher Fleenor. Watching them with Lennon and watching them parent, you’d think they were born to be parents! Loving, happy, attentive, active young parents that since a young age have lived a very healthy lifestyle. They go above and beyond to make sure little Lennon is safe, healthy, loved and cared for.
In September, 2021, Christopher thought he felt a hard lump in Lennon’s abdomen. After the ER dismissed it as constipation, they went home and thought nothing more. 3 weeks later Lennon had her 4 month well check with her pediatrician. Christopher once again pointed out the “hard lump” to the pediatrician and she ordered an ultrasound. 2 days later, ultrasound showed a large mass. Within 1 hour, Lennon was getting a CT with contrast. 12 hours later, the Dr. called telling Rylee and Chris that Lennon needed to see an Oncologist that day!
The doctors, surgeons and radiologists had no idea what this mass was or where it was coming from. After further tests, the surgeon decided it was best to start with a biopsy. So 5 days later, little Lennon was taken back to the OR at St. Luke’s medical center, Boise. Miraculously, the tumor came off of a stalk. So much to the surgeon’s surprise, she was able to remove the entire tumor with no complications! Days turned into weeks, still no diagnosis from pathology. The tumor was sent to Seattle Children’s hospital to the chief pathologist. After 3 weeks, we were told Lennon’s tumor was a Chromosomal inflammatory myofibroblastoma. An extremely rare tumor only seen in about 200 people. Lennon healed very quickly and very nicely. Rylee and Christopher were told there is a very small chance the tumor will come back. All margins were clean!
On December 14, 2021 Lennon had her first follow up ultrasound post surgery. The news came very unexpectedly. The radiologist told Rylee that Lennon had at least 3 new tumors. This was absolutely devastating! Lennon had a CT scan the next day and is scheduled for a PET scan the following week. Now we wait, pray, research, hope and have faith that Lennon will kick cancer’s butt!
Tests, and possible future surgery’s and treatment will of course cost a lot of money. Let’s help lessen the burden for this sweet family, if you can!
