I'm not even sure where to start or how to ask. I tend to never ask for help as I try to feel like I can always support my family in every way possible, but now I am asking for help. My daughter, Harley Jean, is 6 years old and has Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD), which is an inherited genetic disorder that prevents the liver from producing enough alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT), a protein that protects the lungs and liver. This can lead to lung diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and liver diseases like cirrhosis. AATD affects about 1 in 2,000–5,000 people. When she is around others who are sick, she is more prone to catching a respiratory infection, and it tends to hit her hard.

On Thursday morning, 2/20, I brought her to Valley Children's because her fever got up to 104.6, and her breathing was very fast with a lot of belly breathing. She was wheezing and moaning and told me it was hard to breathe and it hurt. Valley Children's immediately got us a room to be seen due to her O2 being 88 and her respirations being in the mid-40s. They ran tests and discovered she has pneumonia, RSV, and this also brought on asthma. They started her on steroids and medication and admitted her due to her air and oxygen levels.

Valley Children's has been nothing but the best for my daughter and has been so attentive. Harley is being SPOILED. She has to be on continuous air and oxygen, and until her levels look better, we are unsure when we can go home, but we are praying soon.

Harley will need to continue to come to Valley Children's to see a pulmonologist and gastroenterologist due to her condition a few times a year.

As of right now, I am the sole provider of my household with a family of 4 as my fiancé is in school full-time right now. Harley has insurance under me, and it currently only covers 35% of the bill. As of right now, we do not have the bill, but I know it will be pricey. I am asking for any donation that will help lift some financial stress off our shoulders, and if no donation can be provided, please pray for my little girl that God heals her completely and relieves her from any pain and suffering she may be going through.
