We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Prathap Kunasekaram, a 42-year-old Tamil refugee from Sri Lanka. Prathap arrived in Australia in October 2012, leaving behind his one-year-old child and wife. Despite his efforts to reunite with his family, Prathap’s application for a protection visa was denied due to a flawed fast-track process.

In March 2022, Prathap was found unconscious in his bathroom and was hospitalized. Over the past three years, as he received ongoing treatment, we worked tirelessly to bring his wife and child to be by his side. Unfortunately, over the weekend, his condition worsened, and he passed away at the Royal Melbourne Hospital on Tuesday, February 11th.

I am Prathap's 73-year-old father-in-law, also a refugee living in the community. In this difficult time, I am seeking financial assistance to help cover the costs of his funeral here in Australia. Any support, no matter how small, would be deeply appreciated as we honor his memory and provide him with a proper farewell.
