Peru: Older adults lead initiatives against climate change
From urban gardens in Lima to ancestral lands in the Ancash and San Martín regions, these older adults are sharing their wisdom about agrobiodiversity to ensure a more just, healthy, and sustainable future. Bertha Delgado (60), Alejandro Lliuya (65), and Nely Fasabi (65) are just a few of them, guardians of seeds, crops, and knowledge that nourish both the land and the soul of their communities.
Through community gardens, native seed and medicinal plant cultivation, these wise people strengthen food security, revitalize culture, and teach new generations how to live in harmony with nature.
In a world increasingly threatened by monoculture, deforestation, and biodiversity loss, their knowledge is vital. They not only conserve what we have left, but also sow hope, identity, and resilience in each of their communities.
However, this initiative needs allies. You can make a difference by supporting the creation of Mutual Learning Centers (CAMs), community spaces for the intergenerational transmission of knowledge and the revitalization of agrobiodiversity, where native seeds will be shared and community networks will be strengthened.
With your help, we can acquire tools, materials, and resources so that this ancestral wisdom is not lost, but rather flourishes strongly in the hands of new generations and the guidance of older adults.
Donate today and be part of this cause that honors experience and protects nature. Together we can build stronger communities that connect with their ancestral knowledge.
Your support is the seed we need to continue cultivating life, memory, and hope in every corner of Peru.
