Prairie Guitar Co.

Hello, my name is Dustin. I like guitars. A lot. So much so, that I'm opening my own shop to build, repair, and service guitars for local artists and creators. Prairie Guitar Co. is a space to do just that, bringing guitar repair services to Chicago's South Side. Working out of the newly renovated Norwich building on 37th Street, near the South Halsted Corridor, I hope to offer local musicians, bands, studios, and others my years of experience to meet their needs.

While I get things up and running, I could use some help with the startup costs. So here's the deal: any money you contribute to this campaign will be credited to future guitar setups, repairs, or other work done out of my shop. Every little bit helps, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to make your instrument play and sound the way you've dreamed.

8 years ago I decided I wanted to repair and build guitars as a career. After completing my education at Chicago School of Guitar Making and a one year apprenticeship, I became a full-time repair technician at Chicago Music Exchange. Cut to almost 7 years and over 11,000 guitars later, and I've had the fortune to work on instruments ranging from cutting edge designs to guitars that predate Illinois' statehood. Along the way, I've put in thousands of hours trying to refine my craft, and I have become skilled in operations ranging from basic setups to neck resets, refrets, and complex structural repairs.

I hope this project will become a positive resource for the Chicago music scene, helping musicians afford high quality maintenance and repairs for their instruments, as well as accessing unique designs made from sustainable materials without the "boutique guitar" price tag. Great instruments are for everyone, and I feel incredible pride when I see or hear an instrument I've worked on being used by talented musicians. The connection between the musician and their instrument is as close as the connection between a singer and their voice; I'm looking forward to helping you find yours.
