Prairie Dog "2024" "Summer" Crisis

Donation protected
Prairie Dog is one of the things that makes Regina bearable,” a dear friend once told us. At the risk of tooting our own horn, we agree with her.

Due to a major revenue shortfall this past spring, Prairie Dog needs to raise $20,000 this summer to stay in operation and keep Regina bearable.

We’ve come to another crossroads and once again, we’re turning to you, our readers. Together, we've raised $10,000 by the end (-ish!) of July! AWESOME! Now, we must raise another $10,000 in August to keep Prairie Dog alive until fall when better revenue prospects arrive.

We need this $10,000 to meet basic expenses and keep our website while we tackle a core problem that’s plagued Prairie Dog since the beginning.

Here’s the big picture: Prairie Dog has always struggled to earn its fair market share of local advertising dollars — the lifeblood of local media, and even in 2024 still the only realistic way for us to generate the scale of revenue we need. This effort continues and we’ll have more to say about it in the coming days.

At the same time, it’s become indisputably clear that if we’re to continue, we need our dedicated and supportive readers to carry part of the cost.

We think this publication is worth your investment.

Prairie Dog has been a strong, artful, fact-based and fun progressive local voice since 1993. We’ve always supported the people who make this city and province great: health care providers, teachers and other public sector workers along with workers generally; Indigenous peoples, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, people of colour and immigrants; artists, authors, musicians and performers, and many, many other groups and individuals that make Regina vibrant, dynamic and diverse.

Back in January, Prairie Dog turned to our readers and supporters to save us from CEBA loan death. You showed up and put your money where your values are, raising over $43 thousand to help this pandemic-battered indie media outlet pay off our federal loan by the Jan. 18 deadline. You kept us alive. Not just alive, but inspired and energized to keep going.

Thank you! We will never forget it. The battle continues.

Please help Prairie Dog raise $10,000 by July 31.
