Help us "Practice Liberation!"
The Swan Center is a Georgia-based nationally-serving 501(c)(3) that works to support Black survivors of violence. Through crisis intervention, community outreach, and innovative research, the Center is guided by our mission to amplify Black narratives, orchestrate holistic healing within and across Black spaces, and eradicate anti-Blackness. It is led by Executive Director and survivor advocate, Wanda Swan.
As a nonprofit whose crisis intervention work entails emergency temporary housing, we have relied on providing hardship funds for survivors who sought out sustainable shelter after experiencing sexual violence, domestic violence, harassment, stalking, and other forms of oppression that leads to housing and financial insecurities. While we have been able to provide hotel stays and other forms of after-crisis care options, it becomes more and more difficult to provide comprehensive care for a culturally-specific group of people whose historical trauma is never validated and whose humanity is never fully recognized. They not only need resources; they need a community.
We want to give Black survivors that.
The Swan Center for Advocacy & Research, Inc. seeks your help in co-creating a tiny home village for Black survivors of violence that would serve as a culturally-specific transitional housing component to our crisis care program. Offering temporary shelter and after-crisis care that speaks to the lived experiences of those already-oppressed folx experiencing further trauma, Black survivors seeking support will also be introduced to an anti-oppressive community program that centers Black liberation and provides options to sustainable prolonged care for the next leg of their journey to healing. We wish to connect survivors to long-term housing, job, and other available options for a self-sustainable transition.
Help us help us today. We are seeking funds to complete our phase one mission of securing land in Henry County, GA and complete the construction of 10 tiny homes.
No amount is too small to elevate the needs of Black survivors of violence! Give today!
