Kris and Sue Need You

For Kris and Sue, the common marriage  vows " in sickness and health"  had a more immediate meaning than most couples think about on their wedding day.  Kris had already received a brain tumour diagnosis in 2003 and the future was uncertain.    While teaching together at Turner Fenton S.S., Kris and Sue married in 2006 and  expanded their family to include 2 beautiful sons.

Here is their story in Sue's words: Kris was first diagnosed with his tumour in January 2003. At the time they told  us his life expectancy was 5-50 years. Kris had scans every few months and things were stable for a few years. So, we decided to go for the 50 year diagnosis. Then when Nicky was just over a year old Kris had his first surgery in January 2009 followed by 12 monthly rounds of chemo. Things stabilized again and Jonny was born in 2011. When Jonny was 3 months old we were told that the tumour was growing again. There was more chemo, then 6 weeks of daily radiation and chemo, different chemo. December 2013 was Kris' second craniotomy followed by more chemo. By October 2014, Kris had exhausted all traditional options and started Avastin infusions. By April, the Avastin had started to fail and the doctors tried one last go of some different chemo. In June he started having continuous seizures. His MRI revealed that the tumours were spreading rapidly. His oncologist gave him 6 months to live.

So that's about it. Our newest development is that Kris' life insurance  claim had been approved. During these last few months,  the school board denied me leave.  So as of this week, I am no longer eligible for paid medical leave  or employer paid medical benefits for the family, although I continue to receive treatment for myself from my doctor and professional support for the boys.  We continue to care for Kris at home with some  community assistance but I cannot imagine returning to work at this time in our journey but may have to in order to pay the bills."

All funds raised through this GoFundMe site will go directly to Sue and Kris and their boys to help Sue stay at home to care for her family.
