Hi, my name is Riana, and I’m raising funds to support my mom, Teri, during one of the hardest moments of our lives.

I want to start by saying that just days before all of this happened, my mom was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver, which came from her autoimmune disease. We were already trying to wrap our heads around that news when everything changed overnight.

On Saturday, November 15th, I had to call an ambulance for my mom. I walked outside to find her in her car, throwing up blood everywhere. It was one of the scariest moments I’ve ever experienced. The paramedics rushed her to the ER in West Burlington, where the doctors decided she needed to be put on a breathing tube. They sedated her, inserted the tube, and immediately prepared to airlift her to Peoria for more advanced care.

My mom spent two days in the ICU. Those days felt like weeks. But today she’s talking and eating!!. We are so relieved — but we know we still have a long road ahead of us.

I’m creating this GoFundMe because my mom will have countless appointments, treatments, and follow-ups in the coming months, and she is currently not working. In fact, she was wrongfully let go from Western Smokehouse just one day after being diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver, due to her “ upcoming attendance.” Losing her job at a time like this has added an enormous amount of stress and uncertainty.

As her daughter, I will need to take time off work to take her to appointments and care for her as she recovers. Any financial support would help us manage medical costs, transportation, bills, and the gap in income while we fight through this.
