Hi, I’m Mackenzie, Drew’s girlfriend and mother of his daughter. He’s a man who will never let anything stop him, who keeps trying and never lets his past define him. A guy who can make any room light up, is always there for absolutely everyone and anyone who needs it, and the glue of every group regardless of the relationship you have with him. A hardworking, determined man who will do absolutely anything for his daughter, the most important person in his world, needs our support and help right now more than ever before. I’m creating this GoFundMe on his behalf.

Thursday night on June 26th around 9:15 pm, Drew was hit head-on by a vehicle as he was coming home from work on his electric bike. He was 6 minutes from home. The ambulance arrived on the scene and began immediate care. He was rushed to the ICU at OHSU. He had a ventilation tube that was inserted in the ambulance, and after multiple scans and exams, the result was a brain bleed, left leg broken in 3 places, left arm fractured, pelvic bone displaced, fractures to the bones around his spinal cord, and unconscious. Drew was sedated. There was a procedure called a fraction done to his leg by drilling a bolt to keep it from shifting as a temporary fix until his ortho surgery on the actual broken bones (TBD, waiting for his brain bleeding, pressure, and swelling to stabilize at a consistent pace before determining). They placed bolts in his pelvic bone to put it back in place, a neck brace to assist with the placement of his neck due to the fractured bones, and a bolt monitor was drilled in at the top of his skull near the brain injury to monitor the bleeding, pressure, and swelling of his brain.

Friday to early Saturday morning was a roller coaster in terms of how Drew was doing. They took him off of sedation, which caused the pressure in his brain and swelling. They continued to help him throughout the next 24 hours.

As of right now, he was stabilized enough to go through with the orthopedic surgery on his lower and upper leg. They put his left arm in a splint for the time being. They are doing hourly neuro exams, and they are currently discussing taking him off of his EKG that has been on for about 48 hours. He will continue his anti-seizure medication. They are also discussing taking out the bolt monitor from his brain. He is having some reflexes and responses, but it’s still not what the doctors are hoping for at this time. This is neither good nor bad. Just a couple of things off the list to worry about. Since they took him off of sedation, they have continued pain medication. The doctors are also discussing taking out his ventilation tube, inserted via mouth, and switching it to a tracheostomy to insert into his neck to continue with assisted breathing. He will continue to be in the ICU.

I will continue to update as we find out more.
