Hello, my name is Mariam Babiry and I am from Nashville, TN. I created this page for those who have been asking me if they could donate to the family. With the permission from the family, I’d like to share their story. On Saturday a tragic incident occurred to my cousin Jiyan. On this unfortunate night, two lives were taken far too soon.
Here’s a little backstory of the couple involved:
Ahmed and Jiyan are a young married couple. Jiyan 24, grew up in Nashville, TN majority of her life, while Ahmad was raised in Kurdistan. After getting married, she decided to live in Kurdistan with her husband. Eventually, they extended their family with two loving boys. Jiyan’s life revolved around those boys. She loved them immensely and was an incredible mother, who worked hard to provide the best life for her children. She wanted to move back to Nashville and raise her kids here because she believed that they will have more opportunities while living in the states. She visited Nashville a couple months ago with her two sons, but due to work conflict Ahmed wasn’t able to make this trip. A month ago, Ahmed was able to visit Nashville and Jiyan’s family, so he can make a decision on whether or not to raise his family in the states. He said his goodbyes to his family but unfortunately did not know that it would be his last.
On July 28th, 2018, a tragic incident occurred in Duhok, Kurdistan. Jiyan and her mother-in-law along with her two kids were visiting a family friend’s house. After leaving the house, they decided to walk back home which many residents in Kurdistan usually do. Her mother in law Hayat was holding her firstborn child Yusuf. As they were making their way across the street, they were struck by a reckless driver. Due to the severity of the impact, Hayat was pronounced dead at the scene. Jiyan watched this incident unfold before her eyes in disbelief. Her son was pronounced dead at the hospital. While speaking to Jiyan, she shared no matter how much she screamed for her son to come back, no matter how much she cried she knew her baby wasn’t coming back. The words of a grieving mother, who witnessed not only the death of her mother-in-law but her son as well. That’s something no one especially a parent should ever witness. She wants nothing more than the support and comfort of her family and husband at the moment.
We can go on and on about the many if’s and but’s that are brought on by this tragic incident, but we cannot change what God has planned and decided for our lives. It is hard for us to take that into consideration but everything happens for a reason. I hope justice is served for Yusuf and Hayat.
Any amount of donation will be greatly appreciated to help the family during this tough time. As well, it will allow Jiyan and her younger son to come to see her family in the states again.
Thank you
