Hi everyone, My fur baby Harley was rushed to the emergency vet’s as he collapsed one night, they suspected it was antifreeze poisoning. His kidneys were enlarged and he was struggling to breathe . They started him on a drip and gave him charcoal to bind the toxins in his body and he also required oxygen, he was kept in intensive care over night and his bloods were taken regularly. (My fur baby is quite feisty so unfortunately sedation was needed each time ) unfortunately the emergency vet’s don’t do daytime care so I had to collect him at 7.30am the next morning and transport him straight to my own vets for daily intensive care.. he was on a drip and again they took bloods regularly to check for any toxins. Harley began to improve but they wanted to keep him on a drip to flush anything out and give him the best chance of survival. 6.30pm I had to collect Harley again and transport him back to the emergency vets for overnight care, collecting him again at 7.30am to transport back to my own vets .. luckily the bloods were showing no signs of toxins at this point and Harley was a lot better in himself so he was allowed home that evening with strict instructions to keep a close eye on him. He is continuing to improve but is still quite sore and tendered around his tummy.
Luckily he is insured as I recently renewed, but when going through my insurers they have said he’s only insured up to £1000 as it was a renewal the new rate of £3000 won’t start until march 1st.
the emergency vet’s fees are £1473 and our own vet’s fees are £700 (that’s without all the fuel used to transport him back and forth as the emergency vet’s isn’t close to us)
So I’m asking for anything at all you can please spare to help toward the rest of the fees the insurance won’t cover EVERY little help in this case as I can’t work due to a disability and also have a disabled son whom I’m a full time carer for. Thank you so much for taking time to read this
