Auden's Top Surgery

Auden was scheduled for top surgery on April 1st of this year; they waited on the list for years to be covered by OHIP. Their surgeon is a top surgery expert who was working out of a teaching hospital in Toronto. During the COVID lockdown Auden’s surgery was cancelled and their surgeon left their position at the teaching hospital for a position at a private clinic. 

In order for Auden to get their surgery in a timely fashion and not have to wait for several more years they need to raise $4000 in one month. Their original deposit stayed with the surgeon and not with the hospital so the surgeon is willing to expedite their surgery if they can pay the rest out of pocket. 

Auden is a single parent without a bio family; they have relied on their chosen family and community to be their support system for decades. At every chance they return that support to their loved ones and community. They’re a community activist, have deep roots in the Peterborough queer and trans community, they volunteer with many local advocacy groups and work for a community organization doing homelessness prevention and anti-poverty work. 

Auden made a deposit of $1800 over a year ago to save their surgery date (which would have been the total cost of their surgery due to the subsidies the teaching hospital receives). The surgeon has quoted them an additional $3500 to complete the procedure this October at a different clinic. This gofundme is set for $4000 to cover any additional costs that may arise; surgical garments, aftercare, compression vest, pathology etc.
