S.T.E.A.M. programs teach 21st century skills and help foster digital literacy skills in a fun environment. The first step in developing this program for kids (aged 8-12) in Penticton is the launch of the After School Coding Club. This pilot project will introduce 10 students to the fun, educational, and skill-building art of coding!
What is coding? It is taking words and symbols to create everything from websites, to apps, to robots!
Why are we doing this? Penticton currently does not have a similar program that is accessible and FREE. Our goal is to provide youth with opportunities to explore these technologies, while supporting education and creative exploration.
Where does your donation go? Towards the purchase of hardware, including Chromebooks, MakeyMakeys, Sphero SPRK+, coding board games, and more fun devices for kids to code. The technologies we have selected will engage all levels of interest and ability.
$500 funds one student for this pilot project, $250 helps purchase hardware, $50-$100 supports the overall program, $20 gets us closer to our goal! If we are lucky enough to exceed our fundraising goal, we will expand the S.T.E.A.M. program to include more digital literacy programming at the Penticton Public Library.
Charitable tax receipts can be issued for any donation of $10 or more. Prefer to donate offline via cash or cheque? Visit the Penticton Public Library to donate in person.
