PROSPECT PARK BALLFIELD RESTORATION FUND

Tax deductible
Your donation to the PROSPECT PARK BALLFIELD RESTORATION FUND is urgently needed to make all seven of the Prospect Park Long Meadow ballfields playable and rain-resistant for Spring 2026 and beyond.

Over the course of 11 years, ending in 2023, a $6 million NYC-funded project fully renovated all seven fields. Unfortunately, over the course of time, the ongoing maintenance of these fields has been severely impacted by deep post-Covid NYC budget cuts combined with ever-increasing spring rainfall. Rainwater now rests in large puddles on every field, and outfield lips prevent runoff to the drains. Last season saw a record number of game cancellations due to lack of clay to fill puddle-created holes and insufficient water-removal equipment.

For 2026, the fields need hundreds of tons of clay and additional maintenance equipment. The Parks Department has indicated that it has nothing in its budget for clay or new water removal equipment. It is also unclear whether it can fund sufficient seasonal field workers.

As a result, funding is needed to make the fields sufficiently resilient to prevent the usual spring rains from unnecessary causing the cancellation of many games.

To assure the minimal amount of money to restore all seven fields, the organizations that make up the PPBA have committed to contribute approximately $140,000 to pay for more than ten 40-ton truckloads of clay and a contractor to properly shape the fields. That amount will not be enough.

We must independently raise at least $50,000 more to establish a reserve of clay and the necessary water removal equipment for what could be an understaffed Prospect Park turf crew and our volunteers.

Through this gofundme project we are directly asking the parents of our member organizations, as well as other permit holders of these fields - private schools, public schools, and adult leagues - to help us reach our additional $50,000 goal.
