JOG GOLF CLUB LADIES CAPTAINS CHARITIES
I was honoured to be made Ladies Captain of John O'Gaunt Golf Club in their 75th Anniversary year. My chosen charities will be Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and Marie Curie. I lost my husband to lung cancer at the age of 43. Sadly, the statistics for lung cancer are still very poor. Lung cancer causes more deaths in the UK than breast bowel and prostate cancer combined, and one of the aims of the Charity is to find an early warning screening test, which could revolutionise treatment and save many lives.
The other charity which is very close to my heart is Marie Curie, I know from past personal and professional experience, what a difference hands-on care at the bedside can make to the terminally ill, and their families, enabling people to spend their last days at home in their own bed, which is ultimately what we would all wish for.
Along with the other sections of the club, there will be several events over the year to raise money for the various captains' charities. Including a charity weekend in July and the now customary 54 hole challenge where each of the captains play 54 holes (3 rounds) in 1 day. There will be auctions, raffles, tombolas happening on different occasions. If you are willing or able to contribute to these by donating items or offering services or items for auction, they would be greatly appreciated. The items will be spread evenly throughout the different sections of the club. The total raised over the year will be divided between the different captains' charities. Alternatively, you could make a donation via my gofundme pages. If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. Lorna
