UPDATE!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you is not enough for the response to our family’s call for assistance to get Georgia this life saving surgery! While not reflected on this site, we have been able to raise additional funds locally in Liberia, bringing the amount needed down to approximately $3,775. Unfortunately, we could not secure appropriate treatment in Ghana and turned our focus to India. We have enough funds on hand to cover visas and airfare for Georgia and JR to travel to India today for the treatment process (assessment/consultation and the (initial) surgery) to begin this week. Based on the diagnosis of suspected multifocal hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer), chemotherapy is indicated and we are raising additional funds to cover this part of Georgia’s life-saving treatment.
As such, we are once again appealing for assistance within Liberia and abroad to help us raise the remaining funds.
We ask for any contribution - financial support, in-kind assistance, and especially prayers. Your efforts so far have made a meaningful difference and brought us closer to saving her life. Your continued generosity, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated and will help us to get to the finish line of this difficult journey.
On behalf of my brother JR, his wife Georgia, and our entire family, thank you for continuing to stand with us in compassion and solidarity.
Original Post: Help Georgia Get Emergency Liver Cancer Surgery
We are reaching out with humble hearts to request financial assistance for Georgia Jibbli, who has been diagnosed with suspected multifocal hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer). Georgia is a wife, mother, and a public health nurse employed by the Ministry of Health in Monrovia, Liberia.
Georgia’s journey to this emergency situation began in August 2025, when she fainted and was taken to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital (JFK) in Monrovia, Liberia. After reviewing her test results and scans, she was informed that a mass was found on her liver. She was told that it was a small mass, possibly a hepatic adenoma, nothing to worry about immediately. The recommendation was to return in a "couple of months" if the symptoms persisted. The symptoms got worse, and she returned and had a second scan in December 2025, which revealed that the hepatic adenoma had increased in size and appeared to be bleeding. Georgia was referred to a specialist, and a third scan was done about 4 weeks later, and the mass had doubled in size and was now thought to be liver cancer (multifocal hepatocellular carcinoma). The specialist indicated that the mass could not be biopsied to definitively say whether it is cancerous due to its increased vascular network. The specialist indicated that due to the rapid growth, it is more likely than not, liver cancer.
Unfortunately, at this stage, Georgia's care cannot be handled in Liberia because it requires a specialized procedure known as a Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE). Liberia has a "pay as you are treated" system, and does not provide health insurance for medical services. To have a fighting chance at recovery, the specialist recommends that Georgia needs to travel to Ghana or India to have this procedure done. Due to the rapid growth of the tumor, Georgia’s situation is emergent and requires TACE as soon as possible.
With the assistance of a network of family and friends, a hospital in Ghana has agreed to perform this procedure for Georgia. The cost of this emergency medical treatment abroad - along with travel, accommodation, and related expenses - is far beyond what our family can manage alone. As such, we are appealing for help within Liberia and abroad to help us raise the necessary funds.
We ask for any contribution - financial support, in-kind assistance, and especially prayers. Your efforts will make a meaningful difference and bring us closer to saving her life. Your generosity, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated and will offer hope during this difficult journey.
On behalf of my brother JR, his wife Georgia, and our entire family, thank you for standing with us in compassion and solidarity.
