Update: We met out goal on day one! Anything raised past this will either help buy an FAA approved battery so Caro can travel or if we meet a stretch goal of $3000 then we can get Caro a better model that has a longer battery range, can go up steep hills, and has wheels that are able to go over rough terrain. We are so thankful of all the donations people have made, THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH. The fact that Caro will have a new wheelchair next week is so astounding, we can’t believe it. We weren’t even sure we could fundraise enough for Caro to even get a base model powerchair. Y’all are amazing people and we are so humbled for your support.

For several years Caro has been getting sicker and sicker. It has been harder for them to have mobility, function daily, keep a job, attend school, etc. So far Caro has not recieved a diagnosis as to why they are in pain and are getting progressively worse with their health.
In 2017 Caro was gifted a wheelchair that made it easier for them to no longer be bed or house bound. They got a part time job, re-enrolled in school, and had a higher quality of life.
Sadly, this same wheelchair can't keep up with Caro's worsening health. Caro needs a portable power wheelchair so they can continue being independent. Because Caro is not diagnosed, insurance will not cover this expense. Caro barely is able to pay rent now, has terrible credit so can't get a loan, and is scared that if they return to being bedridden they will lose their scholarship.
This is needed ASAP. Caro has classes 3 days a week and works the other 3 days. If you donate today, you will help the only wheelchair using student at ArtCenter be able to stay a student at the school.
We are planning on purchasing a Pride Mobility Jazzy Passport or Karman Transit Go, both which are lightweight foldable power wheelchairs that are the same price point.
About Caro:
Since 2007, Caro has been a hard core community organizer in solidarity with black lives matter, idle no more, standing rock, immigrants, worker rights, LGBTQ liberation, student power and more.
Caro started ArtCenter in January 2019 as a Fine Arts undergrad. Caro is Native American, is a queer trans non binary two spirit, and lives in poverty. Caro is married to Ian Patrick (who started this gofundme) and really enjoys living in Los Angeles. Caro is originally from San Diego and loves to swim.
