Hi Everyone!

Many of you know my friend,  Becky (Czubin) Tharp.  She and I met at church a number of years ago and played handbells together.  Becky suffers from P.O.T.S. and has days that she passes out many times,  making it difficult to do anything.   She cannot drive and has been wheelchair bound for a number of years now.  She currently is living in a group home because she could not get enough aide hours to help her at home.  She had to quit teaching music lessons and move from Prescott to find a group home that could take her.

Becky is in her early thirties and wishes to live an independent life! She would like to be able to teach music lessons and live in her own apartment again someday!
While in the group home,  Becky was given a power wheelchair to try out for a month or so.   She was reluctant to try a power wheelchair, thinking it would just make her more dependent on equipment.  However, she found that when using a power wheelchair she had more energy throughout her day,  especially in the evenings when her energy is typically low and she passes out the most.   She was surprised at how  much it helped.  The type of chair she needs is one that power tips back because that is how she recovers from passing out. This type of chair is very expensive.

Those of you who know Becky well know that she is a talker except when she is not feeling well.  That's how I could always tell when she was probably going to pass out on me. We need to help keep her talking all of the time! Ha!!!!!  But seriously,  it would be nice to see her be more independent again.  Living the majority of one's life in a group home with other residents that typically have very different disabilities can be a bit frustrating at times.

Becky has found a used power wheelchair that fits the criteria that she is looking for.  Purchased new this wheelchair would be over $20,000!  She has found a barely used one for $5,000.  She is constantly worried about upgrades and repairs for her wheelchairs,  and repairs/parts for power wheelchairs are going to be more expensive than manual wheelchairs,  so I have set the goal at $6,000 to give her some extra money to have repairs done.

I hope you will consider a gift of money to help Becky out!  Those of you  who know her know that she is a gem!  She is always cheerful and positive.  She is always trying to make the best of the situation.  I have been so impressed by her resiliency to deal with her situation over the years!  She is truly a remarkable woman (and musician) and I'd give her the moon if I could.  ;)
