"Power Up The Club" The Port Alice Golf Club

Donation protected
The Port Alice Golf Club sits adjacent to the defunct pulp mill.
When Neucel declared bankruptcy, BC Hydro cut power to the site including the golf club.
As a result, the club has been running without power since March 2019, using generators and propane for heating. The costs for the project are approximately $25,000 to hook up power with a used transformer. The lack of power has made it difficult for the club to hold events and prevents it from using the kitchen. Also heating in the winter has made it very costly.
Steps are also being taken to safeguard and preserve the historic golf course.
We are applying to make the club a heritage site as it is the last building on the ‘old’ Port Alice town site and includes the original cemetery. The club is one of the few remaining recreational opportunities in Port Alice with the arena and curling club shutting down due to the loss of the pulp mill to the Village’s tax base. The Port Alice Golf Club is a "Not-for-Profit" run by volunteers and provides junior golf membership for free to all the children of Port Alice. It has been operational since 1928. we are hoping that it can continue on to its 100th anniversary.
