This campaign is on behalf of my dear friend, former University of South Florida roommate, and ferocious fighter, Amy Aviles Rivero. As a result of her recurring non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, Amy has a chance to receive a blood and marrow transplant– the absolute best chance of a cure. Although her cancer has recurred twice, she has continued to work despite rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. When she can catch her breath, she builds her body with healthy trips to the golf course and long bike rides. She builds her mind by sharing her life with her three college-aged sons, the focus of her amazing energy and dedication. Her family and friends describe her as a person who loves life, is extremely loyal, independent, and a superwoman!
Amy’s doctors have urged her to undergo the blood and marrow transplant, which would give her a profound chance at beating Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The cost of this procedure is not fully covered by Amy’s medical insurance and the out of pocket expenses are significant. Anyone who knows Amy can attest that she is very private and would never initiate this request -- so we are doing it for her!
A mere 25% of siblings are a match for blood and marrow transplants, so Amy counts herself as lucky that her brother, David, is a match. This match accounts for a large part of her optimism, gratitude, and belief that she will be restored to full health.
