To those of you who donated to the original GoFundMe--we have not forgotten about you. If you haven’t already received an email with more information regarding our appreciation for you and the status of your rewards, you will be shortly.
As we face a future full of uncertainty, we know that we are not alone. We’ve made it this far only with your unbelievable support. As worker owners of the newly established Burial Grounds Coffee Collective, Rogue Tea, and Todai Yoga Studio, we cannot thank you enough. We are anxiously awaiting the day that we are able to welcome y'all back in; there is no way of knowing how long we will need to stay closed, but based on all reasonable information, we are preparing for at least two or three months. We recognize the unprecedented difficulty this presents to all restaurants and small businesses globally and locally; it is also a particular challenge for us, as we had barely been open 2 weeks when we had to close due to this unfolding public health emergency.
Although we are not open for business, we are still incurring expenses. If you have the means to offer any kind of continued patronage, here’s how you can help:

Beloved friends, family and community, we, the staff of Burial Grounds Coffee in Olympia, WA, are proud to announce our imminent transformation into a worker-owned, collectively-run cafe on January 1st 2020. We are also moving to a larger downtown location, on the corner of Capitol and Legion, and need funds to transform the new space into a cozy coffee nook.
For 10 years this weird little shop has served as a central hub of the Olympia community, acting as safer home base for fellow misfits to relax, study, socialize, and organize. It is the mission of Burial Grounds to provide a welcoming environment to anyone who walks through the door. We strive to remain a safe place for those looking to indulge in a hand crafted coffee house beverage or a simple cup of joe. We focus on warm customer service, mutual respect and a community mentality. It is our hope to keep this place alive and thriving, to expand our role as a community meeting space and creative venue, and to add to the rapidly growing number of worker-owned and operated businesses in the South Sound.
While we feel confident in our abilities to meet the challenges of running the business collectively, our greatest hurdles lie in the initial startup fees/licensing and transition costs.
We are also excited to announce that Burial Grounds will be sharing our space with Todai Yoga and Rogue Tea, the projects of a former BG Barista and the longtime brewer of our delicious house chai. Rogue Tea will offer wholesale tea, as well as educational tea tastings and ceremonies. Todai Yoga is a studio with a focus on community outreach and accessibility, potentially offering laundry services should it prove feasible.
How can you help bring the vision to life? At this time, donating funds is the most immediately helpful thing you can do. However, donations of time, tools, skills, and building materials will soon be important as well [the build out of the new shop is currently scheduled to begin December 1st]. Keep an eye out for events and fundraisers in the coming months!
We are currently working on a reward system for our community backers and will post updates once that is finalized. Be sure make your contact info available to us so that we can get you your backing rewards (even if you donate before the rewards list is posted).
