Power of Produce Program 2021

Do you believe that all kids and youth deserve to be excited about fresh, healthy food? If your answer is yes, then the Power of Produce Program at the Annandale Farmers Market is an effective way to make a difference.

The Power of Produce (PoP) program is a successful and beloved farmers market initiative that promotes healthy eating and local agriculture for young people. All kids and youth ages 1-18 are eligible to receive $4 in tokens each week to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs at the farmers market. The PoP program connects all ages to local agriculture, gets them excited about produce, and transforms the Annandale market into a family affair.
In 2020 we witnessed a dramatic increase in participation in the PoP program. Our number of participants rose to 302 (50% increase from 2019), and our average market visits grew to 112 per week (a 141% increase from 2019!).  Additionally, in lieu of the economic impact of covid-19 on family income, we increased our token amount from the previous $2 to $4.

We want to grow even more! More kids, more produce, more healthy families! Our $10,000 goal will enable us to welcome even more kids, youth, and families to the farmers market. The vast majority of our funds go directly towards awarding the $4 in tokens. A small percentage of funds will be used for marketing (printing flyers), purchasing more tokens, and printing stickers for participants.

In addition to this fundraising account, we have collecting sponsorships from local businesses and organizations. Thank you to Oak Realty, Miller's Jewelry, Country Chevrolet, Dingmann Funeral Care, In Hot Water Coffee Shop, Sweet Escape, Anchor Dock and Lift, Grey Duck Screen Printing and Apparel, Arnold's of Kimball, Allina Health, Harvest Bank of Kimball, Annandale Art and Textile, State Farm David Burd Agency, Vintage Patina, Green Lotus, Laketown Dental, and Annandale Paintball.

If your business or organization would like to sponsor the PoP Program, you may also do so through this GoFundMe campaign! Please additionally contact program coordinator Marnie Macgregor at [email redacted] to learn about our sponsorship program.
