Hi, My name is Pot. My mum calls me Potty or Potty Pot Pot or even potty poo somedays. She says i am Potty, but she called me Pot because my late big sister's name was Noodle.
My mum rescued me when I was little and when we lost my big sister, she rescued a new friend to keep me company (we are so in love, she always gives me a kiss if I haven't seen her for a while or i'm frightened, she is an older doggy than me but we love to play together)
I also have a feline sister who is 6 in September. She is only 4 months older than me. My mum rescued her when she was 5 weeks old. She had been saved from a very nasty man.
A few years ago mum had to stop working because she has a serious illness and she also helps & cares for her adopted sister who has lots of poorly bones & body parts. So things are very hard going at times for both of them.
Sensibly she took out insurance on all of us and continues paying it today.
Last year my other half had gallstones, following her vet visit, Insurance excess had to be paid followed by 20% of the costs. It was tough for mum but she knew where she stood, she used her emergency money & got very savvy and we all got through it.
Then in December I had pain in my right eye. It got quite gunky and mum had to keep cleaning around it. She took me to the vets & they put some green stuff in my eye then told mum i had a little ulcer in it. They gave mum several different eye drops to put in my eye and some medicine for me to take, they said it would hopefully get better, but the pain didnt go away, it got a lot worse. I didnt even want to play with Cukie or have her anywhere near me. I didnt know what to do with myself .
I went to the vets again and they gave me anesthetic which sent me off to sleep for a while, while they did something called a debridement as it had got worse not better. When I went back again for my next appointment a different vet saw me, he said straight away the ulcer had gone deep really quickly and I needed referring to an eye specialist straight away. Mum said we had insurance so it was no problem.
Two hours later we were at the eye hospital and i needed an eye graft at the next available opportunity, this happened the very next morning and I was given stronger pain medication plus antibiotics to help me heal.
We thought everything was okay because
We are insured, Until.... mum was told the surgery would not deal with our insurance company first hand and she would have to pay all the vets fees and try to get it back from the insurance company after (apparently they were renowned for not paying the complete bills and just picking out bits to pay, so the vets stopped dealing with them).
Mum took a big gulp, she had already paid just under £400 the day before for me and the operation was a minimum of £2800, plus the next 3 checkups would be a minimum of £125 each. Nevermind the £260 mum had already paid out at my usual vets
Luckily mum had been saving and selling her things for the last few years to buy a little extra garden space for us to play and run around in when she was too poorly to take us out for a run elsewhere.
After the op I wasnt myself for a while but as i started to recover i felt a great releaf and was very happy and bouncy again. After several visits I was signed off.
The insurance only sent mum £1800. She is still fighting for around £1500 from them.
Then it happend again, my other eye started hurting and got gunky. Mum took me straight to the vets, They said it was another ulcer and started me on medication. Once again it didnt work and i had to go to the specialist. By this time i was in so much pain i didnt want to open my eye. The lovely vet put a pain killer directly into my eye , wow what a relief. She said this one had been caused because of dry eye, my tear duct had suddenly stopped working.
Once again I needed another eye graft or I would loose my eye. The op was booked for the next day, The vet gave mum lots of stronger medication, to get me through the night and keep my eye stable. Mum sat up with me all night putting drops in my eye every 2 hours, boyÿyy i was in so much pain. Then we were off for the Operation.
Only thing now, is payment. Apparently its even less likely that the insurance will cover it all and may totally refuse to pay anything as it is another ulcer even though they were both caused by different reasons. .
So mum again has paid £189 at my regular vets. £389 for consultation and more medicine tuesday and £1000 deposit for the £3000 operation plus every checkup will be at least £125.
Plus I will have to have a special type of eye drops for the rest of my life because my tear ducts no longer work.
I'm so upset because my poor mum has lost all the money for my little play garden and has to get a loan to pay my bill at the vets and continuing medication.
I'm hoping someone may be willing to help towards all these costs please, no matter how small every bit helps. My mum would be in tears, and my Cukie lady and i would be ever so grateful.
Thank you for reading Potty Poo Pot xxx
